Mexican Insurance Reviews and Understanding Your Rights in Mexico!
When you leave the U.S. or Canada and head down to Mexico, you might think you are leaving many of your rights behind. As soon as you cross the border though, it is not as if you are left without any rights. You retain your rights as a U.S. or Canadian citizen, at least as far as the local embassies can help you. On top of that, you also enjoy all the same rights as Mexican citizens. There are, of course, a few important exceptions. Learn more below.
Compare Mexican Insurance Reviews
Everyone in Mexico is required to carry, at minimum, liability only car insurance. That applies to foreigners, too, which is why its crucial to compare Mexican insurance reviews online and purchase quality coverage before you cross the border. The Internet is the ideal place to find a good quality Mexican auto insurance quote, because it is cheaper and quicker to buy online. You shouldnt even venture into Mexico without the protection of a high quality Mexico insurance policy. If you get into an accident and cant produce insurance, the authorities are likely to take you to jail.
Owning Land in Mexico
One important exception to sharing the same rights as Mexican citizens involves land ownership. Foreigners do not have the express right to own land in Mexico. That doesnt mean that you cant buy land though, it just means special steps are needed. Most notably, you will need to get permission from the Ministry of Foreign Relations. Furthermore, the land that you are buying must not be located within “restricted zones.” Dont get your heart set on any particular property until you are sure that it is not located in those particular regions of the country.
Medical Attention
Mexican citizens have the right to free medical attention; foreigners who are visiting the country have that same right, too. If you or someone in your traveling party becomes injured or ill while down in Mexico, visiting a local clinic or hospital is an option. It is important to keep in mind, though, that the medical system in Mexico isnt quite as extensive or streamlined as the ones in the U.S. and Canada. You can expect to wait longer; you should also visit your own doctor upon returning home, because it’s important to get a second opinion from a doctor who you trust.
