Know What Kind of Mexico Insurance Policy You Need
In order to get the right kind of Mexican auto insurance online, you need to know what your available options are. All too often, people wait until they get to the border and buy random policies that don’t actually protect them. The border is definitely the worst place to buy a Mexico insurance policy. The coverage is often overpriced, and often lower in quality. Even if you are able to find a decent policy there, you will pay handsomely for it. It’s always best to buy Mexican auto insurance, but you should still do your homework before making your purchase.
Mexico insurance policy: Liability only or full coverage?
One of the first things you’ll need to decide when buying a Mexico insurance policy is whether to get full coverage or just liability only. The second option is the bare minimum that you need to obey the law in Mexico. However, it also falls very short of truly protecting you. All it does is cover other drivers’ damages and injuries. When it comes to your own vehicle, you will be out of luck with a liability-only policy. Full coverage costs a little more, but it’s well worth it. If you’re involved in an accident, your car will probably be damaged. Why pay to have it fixed out of your own pocket?
Deductibles
As with any type of auto insurance, you will be responsible for a deductible when you file a claim with your Mexican insurance policy. In most cases, you have to option of choosing Mexican auto insurance online that has fixed deductibles or variable deductibles. It’s easy enough to understand the difference between the two. A fixed deductible is a precise amount and doesn’t vary. A variable deductible changes depending on how much your vehicle is worth and other factors. Most people choose policies that have fixed deductibles.
Coverage, period
Do you have precise dates in mind when it comes to your Mexican vacation, or are you going to wing it to a certain degree? If you know the precise dates during which you’ll be in Mexico, you can buy a Mexican insurance policy without a problem. If you’re going to head down and come back when you feel like it, however, you should probably buy weekly or monthly coverage. Make sure that your coverage won’t lapse while you’re south of the border. If it does, you’ll land in very hot water.
