Are Personal Items Covered With A Mexico Car Insurance Policy?

People often assume that a Mexico car insurance policy covers their personal belongings, like laptops or cell phones, but that isn’t the case at all. If you leave items unattended in your vehicle while you’re in Mexico or the US, for that matter, you won’t have any recourse if they are stolen. In addition, you can’t file a claim against your Mexico car insurance policy to be compensated for your loss. There’s an excellent chance that your homeowner’s or renter’s insurance policy will cover the loss because they normally cover what they call “contents away from premises,” but you need to check to make sure.

Read The Fine Print

This is another reason it pays to read the fine print when buying car insurance for Mexico online or anywhere else. Mexico car insurance policies are needed because Mexico practices Napoleonic Law, where the authorities can hold you until monetary damages are paid.

Travel Lightly But Remember your Mexico car insurance policy

You should only bring the absolute essentials when traveling to Mexico. For one thing, it’s aggravating to keep track of too many different things. For another, you’re far more likely to lose or misplace things when you bring too many of them. It’s fine to keep items in your car while you are on your way down, but you should empty them from your vehicle after arriving at your hotel. Store valuable items in a safe. However, it would be best if you tried not to bring too many valuable items in the first place.

Park Your Car in a Safe Location

Stay at a hotel that offers secure parking. Many hotels have their own parking lots, but some don’t. If you can stay at a hotel with a parking garage, that’s even better. It would be best if you also parked in a brightly lit location at night. Most importantly, don’t keep things in your car. If you absolutely must, store them in the trunk where passersby can’t see them. Of course, car insurance for Mexico online will cover damage to your vehicle if you have vandalism.

Check Your Homeowners Insurance

Even though car insurance for Mexico online or at the border doesn’t cover the belongings, you keep in your car. You still need it. You could always check if your homeowner’s policy or renter’s policy covers such items. Make sure that it will be valid while you are in Mexico. Even if your policy covers such situations, you should be careful about what you bring to Mexico.

Stolen items is never fun

Dealing with stolen items is never fun, and you will have to file a police report and go through many other hassles. It’s best to avoid such problems entirely while on vacation in Mexico. Are Personal Items Covered With A Mexico Car Insurance Policy?

Mexican car insurance does not cover personal items such as laptops or cell phones. So, when visiting Mexico it is important to take care of your items because if they get lost in the car you cannot claim them since the car insurance policy does not provide for its cover
