Is Mexican Insurance a Ripoff?

One thing you always need to watch out for when planning a trip to a foreign country is being scammed. Unfortunately, there are unscrupulous companies and individuals out there who will lie through their teeth to get you to part with your hard-earned cash. One thing that’s not a scam is Mexican insurance by Mexican Insurance Store. At least, you do need to have Mexican auto insurance if you want to drive legally in Mexico. That’s not to say that there’s not fake or unreliable Mexico car insurance out there; there definitely is. Find out how to avoid bogus Mexican insurance below.

Do Your Homework

Like anything else, the best way to avoid scams when buying Mexican auto insurance is by doing your homework. Search around to find out who the most reliable online providers are. Come up with a list of reasonable options and dig a little deeper. Eliminate providers that don’t have good ratings with A.M. Best and Standard & Poors. Steer clear of providers that are unwilling to give you a quote right away. Look for online reviews to see what other travelers have to say. This research won’t take long, and it is very important.

Don’t Buy Coverage at the Border

An easy way to avoid being scammed is by never purchasing Mexico car insurance at the border. There’s no way to double-check whether or not a policy is any good. You can’t compare and contrast different options at the border either. That means that you are stuck with whatever is available. In some cases, it’s possible to get reliable Mexican insurance. Other times, you could end up with a Mexican auto insurance policy that’s totally worthless. The trouble is that you can’t easily differentiate between the two extremes, so you should just avoid buying Mexico car insurance at the border.

Have Your Insurance Ready to Go

As soon as you purchase your Mexican insurance online, you should print out a copy of it right away. In fact, you should take things one step farther and print out a few additional copies. Don’t wait until it’s time to leave. You need to make sure that you have a valid copy ready to go when you hit the road. When you get to the border, you won’t have to bother with standing in another long line to buy coverage, and you can rest assured that you have quality Mexican auto insurance.

One way to avoid being ripped off is to be cautious. Unfortunately, when you are in such a hurry like as you drive across the border down south, chances are high that you may end up buying fake cover. Ensure that you prepare early enough to have your cover several days in advance from a reputable provider.
