Protect Personal Items as Mexican car insurance coverage doesnt cover it

People often assume that Mexican car insurance coverage by Mexican Insurance Store covers their personal belongings, like laptops or cell phones but that isn’t the case at all. If you leave items unattended in your vehicle while you’re in Mexico or in the US for that matter, you won’t have any recourse if they are stolen. You can’t file a claim against your Mexico car insurance policy to be compensated for your loss. There’s a chance that your homeowner’s or renter’s insurance policy will cover the loss because they sometimes cover contents away from premises, but you need to check to make sure. This is another reason why it pays to read the fine print when buying car insurance for Mexico online or anywhere else. Mexican car insurance coverage is needed because Mexico practices Napoleonic Law where you can be held until monetary damages are paid.

Travel Lightly But Remember your Mexico car insurance policy

You should only bring the absolute essentials when traveling to Mexico. For one thing, it’s aggravating to keep track of too many different things. For another, you’re far more likely to lose or misplace things when you bring too many of them. It’s fine to keep items in your car while you are on your way down, but you should empty them from your vehicle after arriving at your hotel. Store valuable items in a safe. However, you should try not to bring too many valuable items in the first place.

Park Your Car in a Safe Location

Stay at a hotel that offers secure parking. Many hotels have their own parking lots, but some don’t. If you can stay at a hotel that has a parking garage, that’s even better. If you need to park your car on the street, do so in a safe, well-traveled location. You should also park in a location that is brightly lit at night. Most importantly, don’t keep things in your car. If you absolutely must, store them in the trunk where they can’t be seen by passersby.

Check Your Insurance

Even though car insurance for Mexico online or at the border doesn’t cover the belongings you keep in your car, you still need it. You could always check to see if your homeowner’s policy or renter’s policy covers such items. Make sure that it will be valid while you are in Mexico. Even if your policy does cover such situations, you should be careful about what you bring with you to Mexico. Dealing with stolen items is never fun, and you will have to file a police report and go through a lot of other hassles. It’s best to avoid such problems entirely while on vacation in Mexico.

Mexican car insurance does not cover personal items such as laptops or cell phones. So, when visiting Mexico it is important to take care of your items because if they get lost in the car you cannot claim them since the car insurance policy does not provide for its cover
