Although you would be very foolish to go without Mexican car insurance, it is not actually required by law. You cant get into trouble for going without it unless you are involved in an accident. Since you never know when an accident may happen, though, it’s crucial to keep quality insurance throughout any visit to Mexico. Telling people that it is required by law is deliberately misleading; they need to understand that, while it’s highly recommended, it is not actually mandatory.
