Senor Mex says: I don’t think many people realize that they can’t get temporary vehicle permits without buying Car Insurance for Mexico. That small detail is sure to create big problems for plenty of people. You can’t drive legally in Mexico without a temporary vehicle permit, and you can’t drive legally without Car Insurance for Mexico either. Clearly, the two things go hand in hand. While you don’t have a choice but to buy the permit at the border, you do have options when it comes to buying Car Insurance for Mexico. It’s available at the border, but you’ll be way better off buying it online. You’ll save a lot of time and money, so be sure to do so.
From A to B Post
“Before heading down into Mexican you have to purchase Car Insurance for Mexico. This is a requirement for obtaining a Temporary Import Permit for your vehicle. The permit is not necessary for travel into Baja itself but is necessary for any further travel onto the Mexican mainland. After some research I soon discovered that you could either get Car Insurance for Mexico for a couple of weeks or if you wanted any longer then you needed to go for six months or a year to be cost effective. We decided to get six months of Car Insurance for Mexico even though we’re only planning a couple of months in Mexico.”
