Nestled between the towns of Valladolid and Santa Rita, Ek Balami is a structure containing over forty, recently discovered and restored, ancient ruins dating from 700 – 1100 A.D.. Once inside, visitors have the chance to see a pyramid, residences, a ball court and a superbly-reinforced, double-wall barrier. Vibrantly brought back to life, this village now is inhabited with visitors seeking insight into the culture of Mexico’s early inhabitants.

In addition to its low admission price, one of the best features of Ek Balami is the self-paced visit. There are no tour guides, and visitors have as long as nine hours to explore this ancient city’s expansive grounds. When finished, if desiring to stay in the area, the Ek Balami Village area offers hungry travelers some ancient, yet fresh recipes in the town’s restaurant. While the food is not old, these recipes dating back to Mexico’s early inhabitants offer explorers the chance to taste foods that Ek Balami’s early residents may have consumed.

Later, if needing overnight accommodations, inexpensive rooms are also available to rent for reasonable fees. Depending on party size, no more than $100 will be needed for the tour, meal and evening’s accommodations; which makes Ek Balami the perfect inexpensive getaway or pit-stop on a cross-country, Mexican tour.

Mexican Insurance Store policies come with roadside assistance throughout Mexico at no additional cost to you.

Although Ek Balami isn’t as great as Chichen Itza and Coba, I still preferred to spend a whole week of vacation with my family there. Main reason is cost. For half the cost, we all got what we hoped for in a family vacation.

All four of us tried hard to conceal our excitement and disbelief when the admission pass to Ek Balami was not even $10 in total! We really spent time exploring the site, and we also did what we consider as a full car touring. After all, we had the car insured under local policy, so we didn’t worry a bit.

Ek’Balam Mayan city holds the record as one of the lengthiest and consistently occupied communities in the place. It’s worth travelling to this place with Mexican auto insurance. Admission is almost free and many people do the self-paced visit.
